Pinocchio / Carlo Collodi with illustrations by Charles Folkard. - Hertfordshire : Wordsworth Editions, 1995. - 192 strony : ilustracje ; 20 cm.
(Wordsworth Classics)
The story of the walking and talking puppet Pinocchio is one of the best-loved children's tales of all time. Carved by old Gepetto, Pinocchio has an enormous nose which grows even longer whenever he tells a lie. Pinocchio is such a scamp that he gets into all sorts of mischief. He runs away to join a puppet show, he teams up with a rascally fox and wily cat, and plays truant from school which has dreadful consequences. Eventually the conscience of a talking cricket and Pinocchio's guardian fairy restore him to good behaviour, obedience and care for others. AUTHOR: Carlo Collodi was the pen name of Carlo Lorenzini (1826-1890) who dismissed his own work, 'The Adventures of Pinocchio' as "childish twaddle", little suspecting that, after his death, it would become one of the best-loved children's stories ever written.

Few books have been as universally cherished by children and adults alike as The Little Prince."Please," asks the stranger, "draw me a sheep."And the pilot realises that when life's events are too difficult to understand, there is no choice but to succumb to their mysteries. He pulls out a pencil and paper... and thus begins this wise and enchanting fable that, in teaching the secret of what is really important in life, has changed the world forever for its readers.

Prince Myshkin returns to Russia from an asylum in Switzerland. As he becomes embroiled in the frantic amatory and financial intrigues which centre around a cast of brilliantly realised characters and which ultimately lead to tragedy, he emerges as a unique combination of the Christian ideal of perfection and Dostoevsky's own views, afflictions and manners. His serene selflessness is contrasted with the worldly qualities of every other character in the novel. Dostoevsky supplies a harsh indictment of the Russian ruling class of his day who have created a world which cannot accomodate the goodness of this idiot.
